Brief Glorious years of Chelsea
Nowadays, Chelsea is popularly knowned as one of the best and most successful English clubs in football all over the world and based in England, it has been by far one of the most successful clubs in the past decades.
Since the year 1990, the blues have always been famously ranked as one of the best performers in the English top League but that does not also overshadows the fact that they have experienced some worst moments.
In this post, we are going to take a lool at the club's history books and sort out sort out some of their worst defeats they have ever been inflicted in history.
But atleast before getting dowm to the main aim of this post lets first take a brief look of some of the glorious years of the club in its history.
In their history, it can be seen that the club has enjoyed two diferent glorious eras in their history; one from the late 1960s to the early 1970s and another from the late 1990s till the present date.
Their wins include 6 English League titles, 8 FA Cups, 5 League Cups, 4 Community shields, one UEFA Champions League , 2 Cup Winners Cup and one European Super Cup.
It is clearly seen that in terms of international trophies won, Chelsea is the leading club in London but the third in England after Liverpool and Manchester United.
Chelsea's Biggest losses of all time
1. Chelsea 2- 6 Southampton ( September 1967): When Chelsea met Southamptom in the year 1967- 1968, they had not yet made a good start that season so on match day 5 of the first division, they were positioned 17 on the table and Chelsea started the match with great hopes and ambitions of winning all three points in the game, but it just took 10 minutes for Ron Davies to score his first goal of the game.
Immediately after just three minutes, the talented Welsh man forward scored a second goal for his club and finished the game with a hat trick.
Around the 47th minute of play, Chelsea's player Peter Osgood scored his first goal for Chelsea and around the 81st he still scores his second goal.
2. Barcelona 5- 0 Chelsea - May 1966
The next match on the list of the blues worst defeats, came in the year 1965 /1966 in Inter cities fairs cup and the match was played in Barcelona's stadium Camp nou by then the capacity of the stadium was still just 40000. Chelsea came to this match quite sure as they won Barcelona a 2-0 win in the first leag of the game but to their greatest surprise at Camp nou they was given a heavy defeat of 5-0.
3. Southampton 5-0 Chelsea- February 1969
Southampton on the list. After Chelsea suffered their shameful 2-6 defeat against Southampton in the year 1967, the blues once again was inflicted a heavy defeat by Southampton instead of an awaited revenge .
5. Newcastle United 5-0 Chelsea- November 1974
In the year 1974, when Chelsea visted New Castle at Saint James Park to play against them on match day 18 of the Englsh first division , Chelsea were not at their best form as they were sitting 20 in the League table.
6. Sheffield Wednesday 6- 1 Chelsea - December 1966
It is clearly seen on this list that three of Chelsea's worst defeats came by the time when Tommy Docherty was in charge of the English club.
This time around, it was in the 1966 on match day 24 when Chelsea travelled to Hilsborough, the match was played infront of 31,032 fans and it took just 18 minutes for Shefield Wednesday's midfielder Jim McCalliog to score his first goal of the match and his second of the season that year.
Before the end of the first half, David Ford scored the second goal of the match just some few minutes before the first half and around the 57th minute of play, Bobby Tambling scored the first goal for Chelsea but his 16th goal of the season.
At the moment when Chelsea fans were hoping for a comeback after that goal, John Ritchie scored two goals just in less than seven minutes and Chelsea fans saw their hopes going into thin air.
7. Manchester City 6-0 Chelsea - February 2019
This is obviously the most recent defeat on our list of Chelsea's biggest defeat of all time. The game was played on 10th of February 2019 at the Etihad stadium infront of 54,452 spectators . This was clearly also one of the worst days of Maurizio Sarri's time at Chelsea a manager.
Pep Guardiola was already manger at Etihad by then and he led the Citizens to inflict this heavy defeat on Chelsea as Guardiola's men were also on their best form that season and were heading to win the Premier League title.
It took just 4 minutes of the match for the young Raheem Sterling to score the first goal of the match from a spectacular right footed shot and 9 minutes after Sergio Aguero also enterred the score sheet of the game as he scored the second goal for his club, 6 minutes later, Sergio Aguero completed his brace in that game.
